General History & Membership

The LCDC was formed in 1986 and rather than have a small, select committee, it was decided all stations in the district should be members able to attend and vote at all meetings. For the purpose of government statutes there is a list of official members in the government gazette but those on the list hold no more power than others at our meetings.

The Commissioner of Soil and Land Conservation has a nominee on the Committee and this position is held by the Officer in charge at the Department of Agriculture in Meekatharra. The Murchison Shire has 2 representatives, and the Mullewa Shire one.

Generally one meeting is held each year in February, which is the AGM as well as a general meeting. There are field days or workshops held at other times of the year and specific projects hold their own Steering Committee meetings. A President and a Secretary/Treasurer are elected at the AGM each year. These positions are usually held for at least 3 years.
